I’m Lynne Mason, founder of Electric-Cars-are-for-Girls.com, and I’d really like to encourage you to drive an electric car. What I would really NOT like is for you to be unhappy with the electric vehicle you choose!

If you’ve been looking into electric cars lately, you probably already know all the benefits Clean, quiet, fun to drive, happy polar bears, flipping the bird to the greedy oil companies. On the other hand, buying a new electric car (or converting your gas-guzzler) is a big money investment, and it’s also a big leap into the unknown. After all, how do you know whether you’ll be happy with an electric car in real life, or whether it will just turn out to be the world’s most expensive lawn ornament?

To help you figure this out, I thought it would be useful to talk to some friends of mine – EV owners, drivers, converters, and builders – about their electric cars, ask them how they got started driving electric, and ask them your questions; you know, the ones you emailed me because you were too shy to ask. (That’s okay, I got your back; )

The EV guys talked about everything from…

  • commuting on the freeway in the Chevy Volt;

  • charging a Nissan LEAF with solar panels;

  • building an AC conversion from scratch;

  • building the cheapest electric car conversion possible;

  • converting a Prius to plug-in for $4000;

  • selling plug-and-play conversion kits with tech support;

…to bracket racing with the National Electric Drag Racing Association.

These are 8 of my most inspiring interviews. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do, and find them helpful in making your decision about which kind of EV might fit you best.

Let Talk About Electric Cars 8 Most Inspiring Interviews Lynne Mason eBook

In this short (77 pages) book, Lynne Mason presents 8 interviews that give a snapshot of the electric vehicle (EV) world at this point in time. Everything is here, from consumers who lease the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf, to EV homebuilders, to electric drag racers, to the people who make the parts necessary for other people to convert their gasoline cars to electric. These are all real people in the real world talking about their experiences of building, buying, making parts for, racing, and using electric cars in everyday life. I'm not aware of any other book that provides such a broad view of of the EV world. There's a fair amount of EV jargon and acronyms, but even if you don't know them there's a lot of useful information here. Could it be better? Sure, there could be a glossary of the EV terminology, and as long as I'm wishing, I'd like all the interviews to be twice as long. They were that interesting. My favorite interviews were Jeff U'Ren, who leased a Chevy Volt and saved enough money on gas to lease a second Volt, Lynne's Uncle Chuck, who has a Nissan Leaf and talks a lot about his real-world driving, and Randy Holmquist of Canadian EV, a company that makes parts for EV homebuilders, and also builds small electric trucks for the commercial market.

I think anyone interested in electric cars, or looking to learn more about them, would get a lot out of this book. I recommend it.

Let Talk About Electric Cars 8 Most Inspiring Interviews Lynne Mason eBook Reviews

This book was an interesting read from people with different perspectives and involvement in the business of electric vehicle conversions.
I could not download this book. has no way of helping delete it either. I am angry, very angry. I do not want this item and it it could not be uploaded to my iPhone!
Great book for information, and places to contact. Not a how to book. After reading it, has me looking at converting my old Bug.
First some disclosure, I am an EV and green energy enthusiast (I've converted and drive an electric MR2 http//mr2ev.com ). This book did inspire me and I learned quite a few things about electric cars conversions despite having converted my own electric car. I especially liked the interview of the teacher (Paul)that built his electric car for $2200. It was also fun to read about Eric, he is a friend of mine, yes, he is quite a smart one and Tesla was smart to have hired him! The interview with the President of NEDRA also inspired me to perhaps one day tune my electric MR2 to drag race, I think that would be so much fun!
Lynne Mason's "Let's Talk About Electric Cars" is a wonderful introduction to the world of electric cars. She interviews several diverse experts on the many facets of what is required to produce electric vehicles. It is an easy read, packed with lots of good information.
I had been subscribed to Lynne's blog http//www.electric-cars-are-for-girls.com/ a few years back, but then got busy with life and unsubscribed to most of the blogs I was following.

I was pleasantly surprised when I got an email recently telling me that she'd released some of the interviews from the blog in a book.

The interviews cover a great range of people, from those who converted a gas car to electric, on their own, to a shop that does conversions for people, on up to people who own modern generation electric cars produced by the "real" car manufacturers, such as the GM Volt.

There is some technical details, but what I liked about the book was its "real person" experiences. Electric cars aren't just for geeks or motorheads. They are for real people. Most of us don't drive more than a hundred miles at a time anymore, so why are we afraid of getting stranded? There will always be people who forget to plug in and recharge, and those people probably ran out of gas, too!

I'd recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about an electric car, and also go check out Lynne's blog.

Carlin
who will eventually buy, build, or hack together some kind of solar powered world domination vehicle!
